Panel meters are an important instruments for those industries that requires equipment monitoring and/or control. These instruments displays a signal's analog or digital value depending on the specification of the product. These panel meter have capabilities to transfer data via different mediums as well as setting alarms.
With the help of panel meters; a visual representation is created from the signal collected from a sample of voltage or current. The voltage measurements are usually taken across the load while current measurements are in series configuration however supplementary devices are also used for high-magnitude measurements such current/voltage transformer in high-power systems.
Panel Meter displays the measurement of the voltage and currents i.e. monitors the motor current.
There are two types of Panel Meters: Digital and Analog.
1. Digital Panel Meter:
Digital Panel Meters reads the voltage, current and resistance from the input signal and displays it within the panel. A sensor delivers the signals, whose input is converted into digital form and then displays a variable such as temperature and pressure. The meters can also act as controllers, generating a control signal that drives an actuator, relay, safety gate, etc.
2. Analog Panel Meter:
Analog Panel Meter measures the analog signals and displays them directly without any intermediate conversion. The values are displayed on a dial, usually with a scale, pointer and needle. The panel meter accepts a signal input, but based on the model can also accept multiple signals, such as pulsating frequencies. These are known as multiple channel analog panel meters.
